Master of Arts in Music Performance
The main focus of the Masters Program at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel is on practical and interpretational work with the instrument or voice. Special emphasis is placed on work in the major instrument or voice with outstanding and reknowned artist and teachers.
A Master of Arts in Musical Performance may be earned in the following major subjects:
Bassoon, voice, guitar, harp, horn, clarinet, piano, contrabass, oboe, trombone, flute, saxophone, percussion, trumpet, tuba, violin, viola, and violoncello.
Beside the major instrumental or vocal work, great emphasis is placed according to the school's profile on chamber music performance. Here the students are free to choose their teachers, giving them the opportunity to experience dfferent styles of teaching.
Numerous master classes, analysis seminars, symposias, supplementary courses, lecture recitals, series of lectures, etc. offer the opportunity for practical reflection on current questions of interpretation. The Master of Arts in Musical Performance is based mainly on instrumental and vocal competence, and doesn't differentiate between any special fields of study. During this two-year course of study, it is possible to specialize oneself with additional Minors.

- Choral Conducting
- Contemporary music
- Orchestra
- Variant instrument in a historical context
- Wind ensemble conducting
The number of credit points to be earned with a minor is approximately 20 (in the fields of Orchestra and Wind Ensemble Conducting approx. 40), included in the total 120 CP to be earned in this Masters program.
