Deutsche Version Master of Arts (MA) in Composition and Music Theory Director: Prof. Elke Hofmann (ad interim) Composition and Music Theory at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel Programs of study in the Major fields of Composition and Music Theory and the  combination of the two have a long and successful tradition in Basel. In the course of implementing the Bologna process, new Bachelor and Master programs have been developed which carry on with this tradition in the new model. Now the  Majors in composition and Music Theory are offered as an undergraduate program within the  Bachelor of Arts in Music (Information here). The Master programs in  Music Theory and Composition are characterized by a strong orientation toward instruction in the Major subject, i. e. the generous time allotment, which makes it  possible to promote the students according to their exact personal needs. At the same time, the Master programs are so conceived that through use of existing structures for music-practical and music-theoretical education in Basel (SCB, University, Paul Sacher Siftung), the students are given an education far beyond the limits of their Major subject, as well as helpful suggestions for their activities in the aspired profession. The Major in Music Theory is offered as Master of Arts in Music Education (Pedagogy of Music Theory); see Master of Arts in Music Pedagogy>Major Music Theory. The Master of Arts in Composition and Music Theory is offered with Major in Composition (Minor in Music Theory possible) with Major in Audio Design (Minor in Composition possible) Further information can be found in the PDF-Documents below.
